ACADEMIC STUDIES
Academic Studies
Youth Ballet WA offers a unique full-time training pathway that combines elite dance education with strong academic outcomes. Students are enrolled with School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) or Australian Christian College (ACC), attending scheduled classes for one morning each week. In addition, 2–3 hours each day is dedicated to academic study at the YBWA studios, where students' complete coursework using SIDE and ACC online learning platforms designed to support students involved in elite artistic programs.
Our purpose-built studios include a dedicated academic learning space where students can focus on their studies in a structured and supportive environment. Academic Supervisors oversee all study periods, assist students with organisation and coursework, and work closely with parents and schools to ensure each student is progressing successfully. Additional support is provided particularly for students in Years 7–9 as they develop strong independent learning habits while balancing the demands of professional dance training.
YBWA is also proud to hold Curriculum Council endorsement to offer Year 11 and Year 12 ATAR Dance Studies. As students are already completing much of the practical component through their daily dance training, the course is efficiently condensed into approximately three hours per week. This allows students to continue their academic studies while pursuing high-level vocational dance training.
Many senior students complete their Year 11 and 12 ATAR studies while simultaneously undertaking the YBWA Pre-Professional Program. Graduates can leave school with a Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), an ATAR ranking, and university eligibility. This opens pathways to national and international tertiary institutions, apprenticeships, professional dance companies, and a wide range of careers within the arts and beyond.
At YBWA, education extends beyond the classroom and studio. We also offer an annual camp experience where students can step away from their dance schedule, connect with peers and teachers, and enjoy outdoor activities such as mountain bike riding, canoeing, and team-building adventures. These experiences help build confidence, friendships, resilience, and lifelong memories
