Heath Mitchell wins USA dance scholarship to Washington School of Ballet

Perth teenager, Heath Mitchell (15), has won a 2-year full scholarship to the prestigious US dance  academy, the Washington School of Ballet, and will be attending its 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons (September to June) as well as its Summer Intensive in July 2027. 
“I am so excited to take up this amazing opportunity to continue my dance studies internationally.  To be able to learn and grow my dance skills and experience a new country will be such a privilege.”  
Heath has been training with the pre-professional program at Youth Ballet WA, based in Burswood, since he was 8 years old, but initially started at Charlesworth Ballet School when he was 4 years old. 
Heath made his professional stage debut with the West Australian Ballet, during its world premiere and award-winning season of Dracula in 2018. 
In addition to studying academically, Heath is a trained barista and works casually at his mum’s mobile café business. In his spare time Heath enjoys drawing and painting, and is a confident cook and baker. 
Heath’s mum, Sarah says, “We are proud that this moment signals a great international opportunity for Heath to thrive.  Talent opens the door, but discipline and determination keeps you there.  It's a testament to show up, be consistent, find your passion and grit to prove one’s capacity to excel.” 
Heath flew to Washington in September 2026.
