What our Graduates say
"Having the opportunity to train at Youth Ballet WA during my formative years was a really enriching experience, helping to shape me into the artist that I am today. The training program consists of a good balance between focus on technical skills and performance-based opportunities, both of which are both extremely important for young dancers. The training itself is based on the Vaganova syllabus, and is very detailed from year to year. Students train in styles of ballet, contemporary and Spanish dance, of which are an important mix of styles in preparation for tertiary dance training and professional company employment, both of which value versatility and adaptability. Alongside dance, importance is also placed on academic performance, with students being encouraged to maintain a high standard in their schooling. This is aided by supervised academic time, as well as allowance for students to complete various academic pathways, such as ATAR or general pathways, if they choose. The skills that YBWA provided me with has set me up well for my tertiary training at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, as I was able to come into the training with a well-rounded technical base, allowing me to focus on fully developing as an artist."
Tahlia Stoker -Young Artist - WA Ballet
"Being a part of Youth Ballet WA really helped to shape me as an artist. The performance opportunities we were given were unparalleled and I got such valuable stage experience. It was an enriching experience to be in Youth Ballet WA, I would relate it to being involved in a junior company and this definitely helped prepare me for my move overseas and then my career as a dancer. After graduating from Youth Ballet WA and receiving my Certificate IV in Dance, I moved to Germany and completed my Bachelor of Arts in Dance at Akademie des Tanzes, Mannheim. I then went on to work in several ballet and contemporary companies throughout Germany. Without the training, support and guidance I received from Youth Ballet WA, none of this would have been possible".
