Gala Performance
YBWA holds an annual Gala performance each year in August. This performance showcases our older students, previous students who are dancing professionally and national and international guest students and artists. All students gain valuable stage experience performing various classical ballet excerpts, contemporary choreography, Spanish repertoire and various other dance genres. The performances are usually held at Crown Theatre in Perth.
Stage Exams
YBWA's stage exams are held in September each year. These allow for our students to perform a classical ballet solo, on stage, in front of a panel that comprises both current and previous professional dancers. Students are assessed from an industry standard on their technical precision and artistry.
Spanish and Contemporary
Each year students have the opportunity to develop their choreographic skills in contemporary dance creating a group dance with peers. These dances are then performed on stage with older students also being responsible for staging elements. Our Spanish specialist creates various repertoire from different regions of Spain for all students to perform. These performances are usually held at John Curtin College of the Arts. Students also have the oportunity, each year, to have contemporay works choreographed by dancers who have been professionals in this genre.
Annual Performances
Each December our students experience the unique privilege of performing in full length classical ballets. Ballets include The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and Coppelia. Our young dancers are extremely fortunate to dance alongside current and previous professional dancers in Perth's beautiful theatres, His Majesty's Theatre or Crown Theatre.
